BRAND WATCH //
Established : Stockholm, Sweden, 1996
Theme: Starting in denim, Acne Studios wanted to create classic straightforward pieces for men and women, without limiting themselves to ready-to-wear. They take inspiration from graphic design, film, production and advertising; defining themselves as a lifestyle brand.
Philosophy: Acne stands for ‘ambition to create novel expressions’. The collections are defined by the Creative Director Jonny Johansson’s signature juxtaposing design and attention to detail, with an emphasis on tailoring and an eclectic use of materials and custom-developed fabrics.

“It is not about delivering ideas or dreams, it’s about making them physical. And that’s a big challenge.”
On the heels of the brand’s Starter Black Label collaboration, Acne Studios takes the stage at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020 for another range of progressive menswear looks. The collection sees the Swedish brand embracing off-kilter appliqué to further distinguish its fashion-forward garments.
Seasonal staples, like lightweight overshirts and slouchy blazers, have been rebuilt with wanton flair — one shirt sports enormous barrel sleeves and partial contrast stitching, while a pale blazer appears untouched until one considers the notched lapel that pokes into the collar.
From reworked Acne Studios classics to an all-new up-cycled pair of jeans, the collection is comprised of straight cut silhouettes with the majority of looks in muted colors, with some pops of saturation intermittently. A selection of complimentary items such as a raglan hoodie, a patchwork T-shirt dress and a bucket hat made from reused denim round off the collection.
Key pieces from the SS19 collection include the patchwork jeans, which feature two tones of denim throughout in a number of different iterations, as well as the selection of oversized workwear-inspired denim jackets. Most notably of all is a saturated blue jacket with contrast white stitching, featuring two large chest pockets, gold buttons and complementing straight leg trousers.
The collection also features an elongated denim jacket, further tapping into workwear silhouettes, and for a ’90s Americana feel, a varsity jacket complete with distressed patches, striped ribbed cuffs, collar and waistband and contrast gold buttons.
